LESS THAN FANTASTIC: ABC’s ratings for NBA games are down 4% compared to last season. Combined over-the-air and national cable ratings for NBA games are down 8% this season compared to last season (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/15). The NASCAR Nextel Cup Advance Auto Parts 500 at Martinsville Speedway on April 10 “beat ABC’s NBA broadcasts in four home markets — including Ft. Worth/Dallas, where the race drew a 4.6 rating and the Mavericks game drew a 4.1” (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/15).

CABLE NOTES: ESPN’s coverage of the ’04-05 PBA Tour was the net’s most-viewed PBA season ever with an average of 817,000 HHs, surpassing the previous high of 775,000 HHs in ’02-03. Compared to last year, ESPN’s 20 telecasts posted increases of 12% in HHs (817,000 from 731,000) and 13% in ratings (0.9 from 0.8) (ESPN). The Riddick Bowe-Billy Zumbrun fight on FSN’s “BDSSP” on April 7 earned a 0.54/ (303,000 HH) rating (FSN).
