USOC Cuts 14 Employees, Including Six From Colorado Springs

The USOC laid off 14 employees, including six from its Colorado Springs HQs, “as it continued to trim operations Thursday in an effort to direct more money to athletes,” according to Meri-Jo Borzilleri of the Colorado Springs GAZETTE. The cuts also affected seven employees from the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California, and one staffer from the training center in Lake Placid, New York. The cuts come two months after the USOC let go of 28 staffers. USOC Chief Communications Officer Darryl Seibel said that the layoffs “were made across a variety of divisions and management levels,” and added that “further layoffs may still take place.” Seibel: “The reduction in work force is part of an overall reorganization of the USOC. This is not being done in response to a financial crisis” (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 4/15).
