We Are Family: Community Ownership Of Twins An Issue Again

Minnesota Politicians Pitching
Community Ownership Bill For Twins
Community ownership of the Twins “is back on the floor agendas of the [state] House and Senate after panels in each chamber passed a bill to promote it,” according to Conrad deFiebre of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. The House Governmental Operations & Veterans Affairs Committee gave its approval yesterday, while the Senate State & Local Operations Committee last week also approved the measure. The community-ownership bills would stipulate that Twins owners “retain a [25-35%] share and would operate the team day-to-day.” But MLB and the Twins have not “embraced the concept.” Twins Sports President Jerry Bell said, “Our view is it doesn’t solve anything.” But Minnesota state Sen. Ellen Anderson said, “We could get a stadium bill passed in a year if we had community ownership” (STAR TRIBUNE, 4/7).
