| Roush Has Red Sox Fever |
Roush Racing has been working with the Red Sox “on ways to tap into the New England fan market,” and possibilities include a Red Sox paint scheme and Roush-themed shows on NESN, according to Chris Jenkins of USA TODAY. Roush Racing President Geoff Smith: “I’m hoping to find out a way to affiliate our teams more closely with the Red Sox” (USA TODAY, 2/18). But in Boston, Michael Vega reports Roush Racing Owner Jack Roush “squashed rumors” that he and Red Sox Owner John Henry “had discussed an interest in a possible ownership stake” in the race team. Roush: “There’s no discussion of any kind. I’m not interested in buying into the Red Sox and, of course, I know he’s not interested in buying into my team” (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/18). Smith added, “I think right now [Henry] is just taking a harder look at NASCAR” (AP, 2/17).
OFFICE SPACE: In Miami, Cammy Clark reports Carl Edwards, who will drive Roush Racing’s No. 99 Office Depot Ford, will appear in two spots for Office Depot and on life-size cutouts in 900 stores. Clark calls Edwards “a sponsor’s dream, combining his on-track talent with good looks, a perfect toothpaste commercial smile and an enthusiastic personality that includes a signature back flip off his vehicles to celebrate victories” (MIAMI HERALD, 2/18).
