PGA Tour Selects WireImage As Official Photographic Partner

The PGA Tour has inked a three-year deal with WireImage, which becomes the official photographic service provider of the Tour. WireImage receives commercial rights for the licensing and distribution of Tour photography to consumer and corporate clients. A collection of past and current Tour images are being distributed via www.wireimage.com and www.pgatourimages.com (PGA Tour). GOLFWEEK’s Mike Mazur notes Tour execs said that the deal is designed in part “to put some teeth behind a previously unenforced” policy, which “declared that images shot for editorial use at Tour events could not be used commercially without the permission of the Tour.” PGA Tour Dir of New Media Craig Peters said, “There was a significant amount of photographers that were selling images in the commercial marketplace and deriving revenue without any approval from the Tour” (GOLFWEEK, 1/22 issue).
