  • Suns Reacquire 10% Mercury
Stake Of Mariucci (l) And Munro
Less than a year after the very public introduction of Anne Mariucci and Kathy Munro as the first individual team investors in WNBA history, the ARIZONA REPUBLIC reports that the Suns have reacquired the 10% stake in the Mercury held by the two women. Mariucci and Munro claim that new Suns Owner Robert Sarver reneged on an agreement that would have allowed them to increase their stake in the team to 50% and become managing partners. But Suns President Rick Welts said Sarver and his partners just wanted “complete ownership and management” of the Mercury, and that the long-term plan is to hold onto the money-losing franchise. For the WNBA, the change is a step back toward the original ownership structure, but one would believe the league will continue to seek non-NBA owners as investors.
