USOC Appoints Ethics Committee, Olympic Assembly Liaison

The USOC has appointed a five-member Ethics Committee, one of the final elements of its reorganization. USOC Chair Peter Ueberroth and the USOC BOD appointed USOC BOD member & Princeton Univ. President Emeritus Dr. Harold Shapiro as the committee’s Chair. The USOC Nominating & Governance Committee selected the remaining four members, tabbing Indiana Univ. School of Medicine Dean Dr. D. Craig Brater, U.S. softball team member Lisa Fernandez, DC-based lawyer Thurgood Marshall Jr. and Leslie Caldwell, who served as Dir of the U.S. Department of Justice Special Task Force that investigated Enron. The Nominating & Governance Committee also selected three-time U.S. Olympic water polo player Chris Duplanty to be Liaison from the BOD to the Olympic Assembly, which was formed in October ’03 as part of the reorganization. Duplanty, who served as Vice Chair of the Athletes’ Advisory Council for ’01-04, was a member of the USOC Governance & Ethics Task Force that recommended the new governance structure of the organization (THE DAILY).
