NBPA And League Resume Talks But Make No Progress
Published January 14, 2005
The NBA and NBPA resumed negotiations Thursday in N.Y. “but moved no closer to a new” CBA, according to Mitch Lawrence of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. A source at the meeting said that “no proposals were exchanged and the two sides remain far apart.” The source added that both sides presented “‘philosophical’ positions that had not changed since the last bargaining session.” Lawrence reports the owners, including Jerry Buss of the Lakers and Micky Arison of the Heat, “reiterated that they want the next contract to include major reductions in the amount of money paid for players’ salaries.” The players’ exec committee, including Pacers F & NBPA president Michael Curry and Bulls F & NBPA VP Antonio Davis, “continued to seek more freedom for players to move” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/14).
