Quote of the Day
“It’s a nice start, something that’s important for the integrity of the game.”

While some agree with MLB and the MLBPA’s declaration that their new drug-testing policy is the appropriate response to lingering questions around the integrity of the game, others are calling the move too little-too late, intentionally vague and well short of the standards of other governing bodies. Among those not fully buying into the new policy: Sen. John McCain, who says, “Though at this time I do not believe legislative action is necessary, there remains room for improvement;” former MLBPA Exec Dir Marvin Miller, who is concerned about the precedent set by re-opening the CBA; and international doping officials like Dick Pound, who question the leniency of the program. But Bud Selig and Don Fehr deserve praise for putting their typically fractious relationship aside and coming to terms on a new policy that is unquestionably a step forward for baseball.
