ESPN Notes: Viewers To Decide Which HD Game Dicky V. Calls
Published November 19, 2004
With ESPN2 HD debuting January 6 with an NCAA men’s basketball tripleheader including DePaul-Cincinnati, Memphis-Texas and Gonzaga-Santa Clara, fans through December 31 can vote on ESPN.com to decide which of the three games ESPN analyst Dick Vitale will call. The selection will be announced January 1 during Georgia Tech-Kansas (ESPN).
PUCK DREAMS: ESPN Senior Coordinating Producer Tim Scanlan indicated that viewers can “expect to see some innovations” when the NHL returns. Goal cams “will be enhanced so that they no longer have that fish-eye look,” and there will be “increased use of specialized cameras.” ESPN will utilize SkyCam and end zone and center ice cameras called rocker cams that swivel 180 degrees. Scanlan, on SkyCam: “The genesis is the video game, where you follow the game that way.” In Pittsburgh, Shelly Anderson writes, “An equation of better technology and the type of hockey we saw on ESPN during the World Championships would make it a lot more pleasurable and exciting to watch the NHL on TV” (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 11/19).
