| Former Owner Baldwin In Talks w/ Group Over Ducks Bid |
Former Penguins and Whalers Owner Howard Baldwin met yesterday with officials from the Arrowhead Pond “to discuss a possible partnership should Baldwin buy” the Mighty Ducks, according to a source cited by Chris Foster of the L.A. TIMES. Foster reports the discussion “included the possibility” of Broadcom Chair Henry Samueli, whose company runs the Pond, joining the group looking to purchase the team from Disney. Baldwin’s group “has made a $50[M] offer for the team,” and Baldwin has discussed purchasing the Ducks with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, although he has not “made official inquiries” with the NHL (L.A. TIMES, 10/28). Disney spokesperson Michele Nachum said that “other potential buyers have met with Pond and Ducks officials over the past year, and there remain ‘several interested parties’” (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 10/28).
