  • Bush Warned Again To Stop Using Olympic Marks For Campaign

    USOC Again Warns Bush
    Campaign About Infringement

    The Bush-Cheney campaign “has failed to respond to repeated requests from the [USOC] to cease use of the word ‘Olympics’ in a John Kerry parody on” the campaign’s Web site, according to AROUND THE RINGS. The Web site contains an interactive game called “John Kerry’s Flip Flop Olympics” that allows users “to take a guess at Kerry’s so-called ‘flip-flops’ on campaign issues.” USOC Chief Communications Officer Darryl Seibel said that the Bush campaign “has been contacted twice in the past week to seek removal of the word ‘Olympics’ from the Kerry parody, but to no avail” (AROUNDTHERINGS.com, 10/8). The USOC previously requested that the Bush-Cheney campaign stop using the word “Olympics” in ads that aired during the Athens Games (THE DAILY).

    TWO RIGHTS DON’T MAKE A WRONG: USA TODAY cites PoliticalMoneyline.com as saying ABC’s Al Michaels and his wife, Linda, each contributed the maximum $2,000 allowed to the Bush-Cheney campaign in June. During the NFL’s Colts-Patriots season-opening broadcast, Michaels “made an indirect reference to the reputed flip-flopping” of Kerry, and during the Week One Packers-Panthers “MNF” broadcast, he mentioned a conversation with Bush’s National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, who was shown attending the game (USA TODAY, 10/8).
