Sirius Satellite Radio and CSTV have launched Sirius College Sports Radio. The station will broadcast college sports, including football and men’s basketball games for schools with which Sirius has broadcast rights. CSTV will provide Sirius with programming and will create marketing and promotional programs for Sirius (Sirius Satellite Radio). DAILY VARIETY’s John Dempsey reported Sirius’ rights fee per school averages about $150,000 “for the life of the contract[s].” CSTV President & CEO Brian Bedol: “We’ll offer a full menu of college games to alumni across the country and allow them to stay in touch with the teams they love.” Sirius President of Sports & Entertainment Scott Greenstein said that the company “wants to corner the market on live network-radio coverage of professional and college sports” (DAILY VARIETY, 8/31). Univ. of Missouri AD Mike Alden, whose school has a broadcast deal with Sirius, said, “This is ground-breaking technology. I’m pleased for our great fans out there that there is another way that they can stay in touch with the Tigers” (K.C. STAR, 9/1).
