Golden Gophers: FSN North Inks Univ. Of Minnesota Deal
Published September 1, 2004
FSN North has reached a multiyear agreement with ESPN Regional Television (ERT) to air Univ. of Minnesota (UM) football and men’s basketball games. FSN North beginning this season will air one UM football game and 13 men’s regular season basketball games, up to nine of which can be Big Ten matchups. FSN North reaches over 3 million homes in Minnesota (FSN). In Minneapolis, Judd Zulgad notes FSN North “obtained the right to negotiate for this deal when it reacquired the Twins’ [TV] contract in May” after the shuttering of Victory Sports. The new deal “puts an end to three years of frustration for both the [UM] athletic department which does not control the rights to its football and men’s basketball games and the followers of those teams.” FSN North also has a multiyear deal with UM “to carry several sports that the school does control” (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/1).
