Red Sox Owner John Henry will meet this week with Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino and VP/Planning & Development Janet Marie Smith “to discuss and possibly develop ballpark expansion plans,” according to Scott Van Voorhis of the BOSTON HERALD. Henry gave a “ringing endorsement yesterday to adding thousands of seats” to Fenway Park, and “hopes to have a renovation plan hammered out in weeks.” Henry envisions adding “roughly [2,000-3,000] seats,” but indicated that construction “might be spread out over a couple of offseasons to minimize the impact.” Henry said that one expansion idea “involves building seats in front of the glassed-in .406 club, while also moving back the large pane.” Henry: “Ultimately, having 2,000 or 3,000 seats, done in the right places properly, would be great. If we could expand capacity by 10[%] or so, that would be a great thing.” Meanwhile, Henry added that the team is in negotiations with Boston-based restaurateur Patrick Lyons to add “a glitzy eatery” to Fenway (BOSTON HERALD, 9/1).
