World Cup Sharing Headlines With Labor Talks

Representatives from the NHL and NHLPA continue to meet in Montreal today, but there is little optimism that the league will resolve its labor issue before next season. While the principals involved remain tight-lipped to the media, they are in fact talking to each other. The seven hours of negotiation Tuesday resulted in Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Exec Dir Bob Goodenow arriving late to the U.S.-Canada World Cup game. Still, some wonder if all of this is merely posturing before the inevitable fight over a league attempt to unilaterally implement labor rules. Meanwhile, news from on the ice focuses on Team Canada’s retro Nike sweaters it debuted last night. Unlikely to be worn again, but soon to arrive at a store near you, the togs receive mixed reviews from players and media alike.
