Butterfly Effect: MSN Deal Boosts Fox Sports Web Traffic

MSN Deal Increasing
FoxSports.com Popularity

FoxSports.com, one month after it began providing content for MSN.com, “has staged a come-from-behind surge to become the Web’s second-most-popular sports site” behind ESPN.com, according to comScore rankings cited by Paul Gough of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. comScore numbers show that FoxSports.com logged 10.4 million unique visitors in July, up 360% from 2.3 million in June, when ESPN.com was still providing content for MSN.com. ESPN.com logged 13.4 million unique visitors in July, down from 14.1 million in June when MSN.com visitors “were still being counted in its totals.” Nielsen//NetRatings in July placed Yahoo Sports’ Web site second behind ESPN.com in terms of unique visitors, and FoxSports.com third. Fox Sports Interactive Media Senior VP & GM Ross Levinsohn: “We’re on the cusp of a couple very big deals, and these numbers validate the pitches that have been going on for the past two months” (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 8/17).
