ALTITUDE ON DISH: DAILY VARIETY’s John Dempsey reports EchoStar will pay Altitude Sports & Entertainment $1.75 monthly per subscriber, making it one of EchoStar’s “most expensive networks.” Altitude CEO Jim Martin said that EchoStar “is already devising an ad campaign urging sports fans to cancel their cable or DirecTV subscriptions and sign up with EchoStar’s Dish network” to see Nuggets and Avalanche games (DAILY VARIETY, 7/23). In Denver, Chris Walsh reports that as part of the agreement, an “image of Dish Network's logo and the channel, 410, on which Altitude airs will be painted on 52,000 square feet of space on the roof of the Pepsi Center” (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/23). Dish Network VP/Programming Eric Sahl indicated that the roof was a “major enticement for the company” as it will be visible to planes and on aerial shots during NFL games (Andy Bernstein, SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/26 issue).

EN ESPANOL: In S.F., Steve Kroner reports the Raiders this season will broadcast games in Spanish on KZSF-AM and will air five 30-minute specials in Spanish on KSTS-Telemundo (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/23)....The Dodgers and KWHY-Telemundo have jointly created “Dodgers en Domingo,” a weekly 30-minute Spanish-language highlights show airing Sunday’s at 7:30pm PT (Dodgers).

Sanders Stays Loyal To The NBA

NOTES: Louisiana-based Cox Sports Television (CST) has reached a deal with Trajectory Sports & Media Group to air regular season and playoff CFL games this season. CST, which aired its first game on Thursday, has 900,000 viewers in Louisiana, southern Mississippi, western Alabama and northern Florida (CST)....FSN’s Summer Sanders, who also hosts “NBA Inside Stuff,” on how close she was to landing the sideline reporter job on ABC’s “MNF”: “It wasn’t close at all purely because the NBA said there was no way I could do it. It stopped right there. I work for the NBA. Even though there was the common thread with ABC, the NBA and the NFL, there was never going to be a marriage” (N.Y. POST, 7/23).
