| Twins Fans Received These G.I. Joes |
The Twins' G.I. Joe action figure giveaway, which was part of "Armed Services Appreciation Day" during Monday's game against the Royals, "was met with little resistance from those who thought the promotion promoted war," according to Jason Williams of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. While some anti-war groups criticized the promotion last week, Twins Dir of Communications Brad Ruiter said there was "never any thought of canceling the promotion." Ruiter: "Ever since this became an issue last week, we received thousands of e-mails. It was a ratio of about 125-to-1 in support of what we were doing." Shelby Rhodes, a volunteer who helped hand out the action figures to the first 5,000 kids at the game, said only "a few people rejected them." The club also offered fans who declined the action figure a pack of Twins baseball cards. The game drew 16,191 fans (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 7/6).
