Dodgers Chair Frank McCourt is "expected to inform all team personnel today that he himself will fill the role of club president," according to Tony Jackson of the L.A. DAILY NEWS. McCourt, who "hinted at the time he bought the club that he might bring in a president," said, "I have been fulfilling that role since the time we purchased the franchise anyway." The team recently hired Paul DePodesta as Exec VP & GM, Marty Greenspun as COO, Lon Rosen as Exec VP & CMO and Gary Miereanu as VP/Communications, and McCourt said, "I think they are all highly capable, and the four of us have developed a great working relationship together, along with [Vice Chair] Jamie (McCourt)." He added DePodesta, Greenspun and Rosen "will make the bulk of the day-to-day decisions. We will be making some decisions together whenever certain issues come up and they need feedback or if a final decision has to be made on something they bring to my attention. I expect to meet with them on a frequent and regular basis" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 6/2).
MASCOT: In L.A., Jason Reid reported that Rosen is "strongly considering" creating a mascot for the team. Rosen: "I don't know if it will work. We're going to take a look at it and talk to people about it." Rosen added of other marketing and ballpark experience initiatives, "Obviously, we're going to have people who aren't happy with some things, and we're going to be very sensitive to that. We're going to look at everything and evaluate it. This is a work in progress" (L.A. TIMES, 6/1).
