In Ottawa, Chris Stevenson reported that Senators President Roy Mlakar met with the team's front-office staff recently and informed them "that salary cuts, job sharing or even layoffs could be in the offing" in the event of a work stoppage. Ontario labor laws say workers "must be given ample warning if there are to be changes to their job situation" (OTTAWA SUN, 3/14).

JAZZ-ED: In Detroit, Chris McCoskey noted the Jazz were fined $15,000 by the NBA for their skit about Karl Malone earlier this year, and reported that since it was the mascot's idea, the team "forced him to cough up half of the $15,000." McCoskey: "How ridiculous is that? The front office and owner Larry Miller were made aware of the skit before it ran, and they approved it" (DETROIT NEWS, 3/14).

RED LIGHT: Red Sox COO Mike Dee, on whether the variable pricing used for the team's new right-field roof section will expand to the rest of the ballpark: "We have not had a lot of debate for any type of broader or general approach to variable pricing. We've gone to a very simple approach affecting about 1[%] of our capacity, basically just two forms of pricing" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/14).
