  • Diamond In The Rough: Titans Put Team President On Waivers

Diamond Pushed Out Of Titans Post

Titans Owner BUD ADAMS yesterday informed team president JEFF DIAMOND that his contract will not be renewed, according to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Diamond, who spent 23 years with the Vikings before joining the Titans in '99, said "financial issues" may have been the reason for the move. He made $1M in '02, the final year of his initial four-year deal, and received a one-year contract last year, but "took a significant pay cut in exchange for incentives." Diamond: "Given the success we've had, I figured that things would continue. I was a little surprised from the standpoint of leaving the organization, but I don't think anything shocks me in the NFL or in pro sports." Adams re-assumes the title of president, which he held before Diamond. Adams said in a statement, "I believe I need to be more directly involved in the management of the team and stadium company. We are facing some tough challenges on and off the field, and I intend to be personally involved in seeing to our businesses." Titans General Counsel STEVE UNDERWOOD will assume additional duties, and Exec VP DON MACLACHLAN was given an expanded role in management of facilities and non-football operations (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 1/21).
