In Boston, Beggy & Shanahan report Patriots Owner BOB KRAFT and his wife, MYRA, held an AFC Championship Game party Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. Unlike the game, the party was "a friendly gathering as a few hundred supporters of the Pats and Colts chowed on shrimp, lobster, lamb, roast beef, and sushi." DOUBLED UP: In N.Y., Dicker & Lovett note the YANKEES last month paid a $75,000 fine to settle a complaint by the NY Lobbying Commission that the team "failed to disclose dozens of tickets given to officials." While it was revealed that Manhattan DA ROBERT MORGENTHAU, City Council Speaker GORD MILLER and others had received free tickets, it was not reported that "four pricey World Series box seats were involved" for Morgenthau. One source indicated that the commission "may refer the Yankees' action to" AG ELIOT SPITZER for further prosecution (N.Y. POST, 1/19).
LATE NIGHT LAUGHS: Boxer SHANE MOSLEY appeared in a skit on Fox's "Mad TV" Saturday with castmember ARIES SPEARS playing boxer OSCAR DE LA HOYA and castmember FRANK CALIENDO playing ESPN's JIM ROME. The skit was a spoof of a commercial for SBC long distance phone service with Spears saying, "With rates this low I can diss Sugar Shane all day long." Caliendo: "SBC. TURBULENCE: In Phoenix, Jonathan Higuera reported SPORTSJET LLC, an air charter service owned by Coyotes co-Owner JERRY MOYES, "has been fined $250,000 by the U.S. Transportation Department for making improper flights." The Department of Transportation alleged that SportsJet "was operating as a common carrier since 1999 but was only licensed to act as a private carrier. The consent order said the company started providing service to certain professional athletic teams owned by Moyes but over time began providing service to athletes, teams, public figures and others not related to the owners" (AZ REPUBLIC, 1/17).
