Confusion In Phoenix Over Globetrotters, Meadowlark Lemon
Published January 19, 2004
Former Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon and his new Harlem All-Stars are playing at Glendale Arena February 7, eight days before the Globetrotters play at America West Arena, and Globetrotters Owner Mannie Jackson said that some fans think that Lemon "has rejoined the team," according to Craig Harris of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Jackson said that Glendale Arena officials "are closely tying Lemon to the Globetrotters, with ads showing him in a uniform similar to the Globetrotters' and with the word 'Harlem' in large type." Jackson: "What bothers me on that is the confusion that has taken place, and I don't sense that they are clearing it up." But Glendale Arena Marketing Dir Stephen Grossman said, "We are very cognizant that Meadowlark has the rights to promote himself, and we are going through with it" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/17).
