| Richard Schiff As Tony Kornheiser? |
CBS has picked up a comedy pilot around Washington Post columnist and ESPN TV/radio host Tony Kornheiser, and the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Nellie Andreeva notes the untitled project from Regency Television, "is based on the real life of ... Kornheiser, who juggles his career as plain-spoken writer and humorist with his family life as a father to teens" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 2/7). Kornheiser, on his choice to play the lead role: "I have no idea. Somebody like Richard Dreyfuss. He's my age and I've watched him do all sorts of things, but I'm pretty sure I'm taller" (WASHINGTON POST, 2/7). Kornheiser will receive an executive consultant credit on the show, while Jeff Martin will write and exec produce. Former NBC exec Lindy DeKoven will also exec produce (Michael Schneider, DAILY VARIETY, 2/7).
IMAGE HELPER? DAILY VARIETY's Dave McNary notes Paramount Pictures "has decided to get in the game with `Starting Five,'" which "centers on an NBA all-star who falls from grace and winds up in prison. Once there, he has the chance to redeem himself by putting together a group of inmates to play his former NBA team" (DAILY VARIETY, 2/7).
