Developer To Bring NASCAR-Themed Park To Charlotte
Published September 13, 2002
SC-based developer Burroughs & Chapin will open a NASCAR-licensed, "multimillion dollar motorsports amusement park" next summer at a Charlotte, NC-area shopping mall, according to Ken Elkins of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL, who notes similar facilities operate in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Pigeon Forge, TN. The six-acre park will feature miniature-car racing on five tracks; as well as a banquet facility. Concord, NC, Mayor Scott Padgett said of the park: "It falls in with our efforts to keep the Winston and to make sure that Concord and the region maintains its reputation as the home for NASCAR and Winston Cup racing." Burroughs & Chapin also operate four ESPN X Games Skateparks (CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/13 issue). An indoor retail section of the complex will open at the mall this weekend (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/13).
