Nevada Steps Up To Plate To Help PGA Tour Reno-Tahoe Open
Published August 30, 2002
The NV Tourism Commission wants the state Legislature to commit hotel tax revenue to become a "one-fifth sponsoring partner in the ... struggling" PGA Tour Reno-Tahoe Open in '03, according to Scott Sonner of the AP, who noted spending could be as much as $500,000. The move is "part of an effort to keep the four-year-old event alive even though the tournament has been unable to secure a title sponsor." But a deal "would be contingent on securing a TV contract for a weekend opposite no other PGA event," as the event has been played the same weekend as the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational (AP, 8/29).
