Lions' Practice Den To Include High-Tech Broadcasting Center
Published July 8, 2002
The Lions have added a broadcasting facility as part of their new practice facility in Allen Park, according to Joanne Gerstner of the DETROIT NEWS, who noted the Cowboys, Buccaneers and Jaguars also have broadcasting facilities. The Lions' broadcasting center, which "houses $750,000 worth of broadcasting equipment, sits on the second floor of the practice facility." Coach Marty Mornhinweg's Monday news conferences and radio shows, as well as other news conferences, will be held in the studio. The "setup also allows better access for when ESPN or ABC comes to town and needs to do extensive interviews with the coaches and players." The Lions will also produce three weekly TV programs the pre-game show, the team's weekly report and the Fox football Sunday show. Gerstner: "Before, the Lions had to rent equipment or contract with a local TV station to do the editing of the shows. Now the team can do it all on its own" (DETROIT NEWS, 7/5).
