Show Me The Money: Real Cardinals Could Use A Jerry Maguire
Published May 1, 2002
The city of Mesa's planned location for the $350M NFL Cardinals stadium "was targeted by a referendum drive only hours after its approval" yesterday, according to Pat Flannery of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC, who notes the AZ Tourism & Sports Authority BOD voted unanimously to build the facility. Mesa officials "billed it as a 'revenue neutral' plan, with most of the cost of preparing the site being paid with taxes that will be generated by the stadium and its events." Flannery writes that opponents have 30 days to gather valid signatures from 4,043 registered voters to put the measure to a vote in Mesa (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/1).
