So Far, So Good: SLOC Officials Thrilled With '02 Games Ops
Published February 12, 2002
SLOC COO Fraser Bullock yesterday called operations for the '02 Games "an absolute home run," according to Lisa Riley Roche of the DESERET NEWS, who writes Bullock "seemed confident that the Games would continue to run smoothly." Bullock: "When issues do arise we can attack them and resolve them on the spot." Riley Roche writes that during a meeting yesterday, "about all SLOC officials had to talk about ... was the decision to cancel the women's downhill at Snowbasin because of high winds." But the "good news from Snowbasin ... was that there were no major transportation problems" (DESERET NEWS, 2/12). Meanwhile, the WALL STREET JOURNAL's Jim Carlton writes, "With the security clampdown in full force, it's become almost an Olympian feat to find the folks who protest everything from cruelty to animals to China's persecution of Falun Gong" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 2/12). In S.F., John Crumpacker writes, "You can't walk 10 feet anywhere in this Olympic city without encountering some form of security personnel and that's as it should be. Though security is ubiquitous, it hasn't gotten to the point where it's detracting from the simple enjoyment of the Games" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/12).
