People & Personalities: Mac Gets The Chair; YES Network News
Published January 8, 2002
John McEnroe "has been tapped to host ABC's upcoming reality game show 'The Chair,' from Touchstone TV," according to the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. In each episode of the show, "as many as eight contestants will be quizzed while attached to a heart monitor." A contestant answering correctly "without his base heart rate exceeding a predetermined range will win a money prize" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 1/8).
YES NETWORK: In N.Y., Bob Raissman cites sources who say that former Yankees RF Paul O'Neill "will be a member of the Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network pre and postgame show team." O'Neill "likely will work 25 of the shows," joining Fred Hickman, Suzyn Waldman and Bobby Murcer (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/8). Also in N.Y., Richard Sandomir reports Tim McCarver will not call Yankees games on either YES or WCBS-TV, as "now he will call only Fox Sports games." McCarver "is not certain why YES, which also hires announcers for Viacom-owned [WCBS], did not hire him." He said that he was "not offered the 20-game [WCBS] package, which his agent had focused on, or any games on YES, which will carry 130" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/8).
