U.S. Bobsledders Racine And Davidson Ahead Of The Curve
Published December 13, 2001
U.S. women's bobsledders Jean Racine and Jen Davidson have "become the most sought after Olympic athletes entering" the '02 Games, according to Jo-Ann Barnas of the DETROIT FREE PRESS, who notes that Racine and Davidson, who have won the overall World Cup title the past two seasons, "are among the few Olympic hopefuls who have capitalized on their success." PMG Sports President Evan Morganstein, who reps both Racine and Davidson, said that "to date, they've earned more than $500,000 in endorsements and could bring in another half-million should they win the Olympic gold medal." Racine and Davidson have deals with Northwestern Mutual, GNC Pro Performance, GM, Visa and Kellogg. Davidson is also sponsored by Nike, while Racine has deals with adidas and Xerox. Burns Sports President Bob Williams noted the current economic climate and said, "It's terrible timing for the Winter Olympics, but there is a small window of opportunity (and) $500,000 is very good." Morganstein added that he "was close to announcing two more endorsements one for the duo, and another separate deal for Racine. A book deal is also in the works" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/13).
