On Long Island, Curtis Taylor writes, "The proposed No. 7 subway line extension and a controversial domed stadium to house the Jets and Yankees could be built under an ambitious redevelopment plan released yesterday by Mayor [Rudy] Giuliani to revitalize a long-neglected corridor on the West Side of midtown Manhattan." City officials said that the plan for "Far West Midtown" would "develop 40 million square feet of new office and retail space, expand the Jacob Javits Convention Center and build sports and entertainment facilities." Giuliani, whose term ends on December 31, said that the plan "would have to be carried forward by the next administration" (NEWSDAY, 12/13)....In Chicago, Bob Foltman writes that the White Sox "formally turned down the [MLS] Fire's request" to play at Comiskey Park. With renovations beginning at Soldier Field, the Fire "needed to find a place to play" for the next two seasons (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 12/13). ...In S.F., Matier & Ross wrote that the city of Oakland is "about to release a study identifying prime spots for a new A's ballpark and from what we hear, all eyes are looking to the waterfront" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/12).
