Turnstile Tracker: Soccer Nets Almost Eight Million Fans

The following is Part IX of THE DAILY's "Turnstile Tracker," which estimates that over 450 million people attended sporting events in the U.S. and Canada during the '00-01 sports year. Presented today are the regular season and post-season figures for soccer, broken down by league. While a few of the numbers are not exact, they do serve as the most detailed estimates of the number of attendees of soccer during the '00-01 sporting year (THE DAILY).

NOTES: NCAA Men's Soccer regular season attendance consists of 21 Division I teams, 20 Division II teams and 20 Division III teams. NCAA Women's Soccer regular season attendance consists of 50 Division I teams, 30 Division II team and 30 Division III teams. Both NCAA Men's and Women's Soccer (Championships) numbers are '99-00 for Divisions I, II and III. Both U.S. Men's and Women's Soccer include only U.S. events. Canadian Soccer Men's team includes only games played in Canada, as the Canadian women did not play a game in Canada last year. Lamar Hunt Open includes 30 of 31 second-round games through the Finals games (THE DAILY).
