N.Y. Radio Station Brings In Johnny Mac To Challenge WFAN
Published December 11, 2001
ESPN Radio in N.Y., on WEVD-AM, is "close to hiring" John McEnroe as its afternoon drive anchor "in an aggressive bid to challenge" WFAN-AM, according to Phyllis Furman of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Sources said that McEnroe "would be paired with a co-anchor for a local" show to air weekdays from 4:00-7:00pm. The show, which would compete with WFAN's "Mike & the Mad Dog" afternoon drive show, "could debut as soon as" January. McEnroe "recently did a couple of guest stints" on WEVD-AM (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/11).
