Gametime For Gonzo: EA Sports Inks D'Backs LF For Cover
Published December 4, 2001
Electronic Arts (EA) has named D'Backs LF Luis Gonzalez as spokesperson for EA Sports' Triple Play 2002 video game. Gonzalez will appear on all packaging and merchandising for the game, and EA will make a monetary donation to Gonzalez' "Kids Going Gonzo for School" program, which rewards economically disadvantaged students in AZ for attendance, effort in school and behavior (EA Sports). In Phoenix, Christine Romero reports EA "had Gonzalez in mind for the cover of Triple Play 2002 even before" his World Series-winning RBI against the Yankees last month. Gonzalez' marketing agent Mark Clayton said his client is "very humbled and very excited. Getting that endorsement is about the hardest endorsement to get" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 12/4).
