Michigan-Michigan State Hockey Game Tones Down Use Of Slogan
Published September 19, 2001
MI State Univ. (MSU) officials said that "Cold War," which has historically been the slogan for the October 6 Univ. of MI-MSU hockey game, will "take a back seat" to the game itself, according to Rob Hoffman of the FLINT JOURNAL, who notes the game is expected to draw more than 72,000 fans to Spartan Stadium. MSU SID John Lewandowski said, "You can't go back and change history. It's a little late to do something about [changing the slogan]. But certainly we can do our part ... to make sure (the slogan) is not the focus." Lewandowski said the slogan "was mentioned in every single piece of literature that we sent out [before last week's terrorist attacks]. As we get closer to the game, you'll see it less and less a part of what's being done." Meanwhile, Steve & Barry's University Sportswear store manager Jayson Pinkerman said that "interest in 'Cold War' T-shirts has been 'mediocre' so far" (FLINT JOURNAL, 9/19).
