Hasselbeck Calls Audible, May Rep Himself In Contract Talks
Published July 24, 2001
Contract talks between the Seahawks and QB MATT HASSELBECK "have been suspended" because Hasselbeck released his agent, VANN MCELROY, and "intends to play next season under the terms of his current deal," according to Percy Allen of the SEATTLE TIMES, who noted Hasselbeck "is seeking a new agent, but he's also considering representing himself." Hasselbeck said, "I'm not really in a situation where I need an agent right now." More Hasselbeck, on representing himself: "Being an agent isn't like being a brain surgeon. ... It's not totally impossible for me to represent myself. I'm not sure I want to do it. I want my focus to be on football, but [representing myself is] not totally impossible" (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/23).
