Kournikova Reportedly Weds Fedorov In A Private Ceremony
Published July 23, 2001
Anna Kournikova was "married in secret" in Moscow to Red Wings C Sergei Fedorov, according to Harley & Jackson of the London SUN, who report, "Just five guests witnessed the register office ceremony." A friend of Fedorov said, "It was a very quiet ceremony only both sets of parents and Sergei's brother attended. ... Anna did not want to be a teen bride so they waited until her 20th birthday. They got married during Wimbledon, when Anna was injured. She thought it would be a good time to avoid publicity" (London SUN, 7/23). But Kournikova's father said today, "Anna is in Florida at the moment and has begun training. Only yesterday I spoke with her on the phone and I think she would be very surprised to hear about this latest rumor" (REUTERS, 7/23).
SERVES & VOLLEYS: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Chris Gardner reports Intermedia "has acquired an untitled comedy pitch" from writer Bruce Miller, "set in the world of women's tennis for [actress Reese Witherspoon's] Intermedia-based Type A Films." Witherspoon "is attached to star in and produce the project" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 7/23)....In S.F., C. Allen Johnson writes that L. Jon Wertheim's book, "Venus Envy: A Sensational Season Inside the Women's Tour," will "go down as one of the great sports books of all time if often reads like an extended newspaper article." Wertheim "does achieve a nice balance that is careful to not only give fascinating little tidbits about his headliners, but also inside scoops on lower-rung players" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/23).
