Title Sponsor Replacement Would Bring Early Holiday For Bowl
Published July 12, 2001
Holiday Bowl Exec Dir Bruce Binkowski and Assistant Exec Dir Mark Neville "have been shopping" the title sponsorship to the game, "almost from the time" Culligan President Mike Reardon informed them three months ago that the company would "likely not continue its title sponsorship role beyond this year's game," according to Kevin Acee of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The sponsor of the '02 game will be its fifth sponsor since SeaWorld first sponsored the game in '86. One Holiday Bowl BOD member said the game needs a sponsor with "a national presence. That's what we need to look for when you start to go for the bigger dollars a national chain that doesn't have to worry about those things." Neville estimates that he has spoken to about 75 companies (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/11).
