MLS Rapids Expected To Join Broncos At Invesco Field
Published July 11, 2001
Unless there is a "meltdown in negotiations," the MLS Rapids "will become a tenant" of Invesco Field @ Mile High, according to Kevin Coleman of the DENVER POST, who reports Stadium Management Company (SMC), a subsidiary of the Broncos which operates the facility, is currently negotiating with Rapids investor/operator Anschutz Entertainment Group. SMC VP/Stadium Operations Mac Freeman said that an announcement "could be made in the next three to four weeks." Freeman added that the "parameters of the proposed lease are for three to five years with options." Coleman writes that the "sticking point in negotiations is the Rapids' desire to share with the stadium auxiliary revenues from parking fees and food and beverage sales, based on attendance figures." More Coleman: "Without an agreement to play at Invesco Field, the Rapids have few options" (DENVER POST, 7/11).
