Developing Situation: Cardinals Ballpark Inching Closer?
Published April 26, 2001
Although they "don't have the money in hand or any guarantees," MLB Cardinals President Mark Lamping and developer Richard Baron said that they are "confident" the $380M Ballpark Village development "would rise alongside a new ballpark in downtown St. Louis, provided the ballpark gets built," according to Prost & Carey of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Lamping and Baron said that other developers, "local and out-of-town ones, are coming forward saying they'd like to help." MO Gov. Bob Holden said earlier this week that he "wouldn't support using state money to help build a heavily subsidized" $370M ballpark unless Ballpark Village came with it. Baron faxed a letter to Holden on Tuesday saying his firm was "prepared to enter into a development agreement with" the Cardinals for Ballpark Village (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 4/26).
