Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Files Suit Against City Of Irving
Published April 26, 2001
Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones is suing the city of Irving, TX, "seeking to prevent public disclosure of" the city auditor's records of TX Stadium, according to Miles Moffeit of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. District Judge David Evans "granted a restraining order temporarily blocking release of the records at least until" a May 10 hearing. Last year, the Star-Telegram "requested copies of corporate sponsorship contracts Jones has struck as the leaseholder of" TX Stadium, "in addition to working papers kept by" city-hired auditors who reviewed his contracts. Jones' stadium deal requires that 8% of operating revenues, which include stadium advertising, be shared with the city. In March, TX AG John Cornyn ruled "that the contracts do not constitute public records," but ordered the city "to turn over the auditor's records." The move "prompted" Jones' lawsuit against the city (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/26).
