    As part of its restructuring announced yesterday, CNN named STEVE ROBINSON as Exec VP & GM of CNN/SI. Robinson will report to JIM WALTON, President of CNN Domestic Networks (CNN)....The MLB Cardinals promoted former Special Assistant to the GM BOB GEBHARD to VP/Special Assistant to the GM and named JOHN MOZELIAK as Dir of Baseball Operations (Cardinals)....The USOC named BLAIR TRIPODI as Dir of NGB Marketing. Previously, Tripodi was responsible for marketing Nike retail footwear and "balancing Nike brand values with the needs of the retailers" (BRANDWEEK, 1/15)....iMAGE 500 named JASON WISE as Manager of PR & Branding. Most recently, Wise served as Community Outreach Coordinator with The Relatives, Inc., a Charlotte-based youth services agency. In addition, Wise was a Marketing Assistant with Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and a reporter for National Speed Sport News, a national racing trade publication (iMAGE 500)....St. Louis attorney WALTER LAMKIN was named Chair of the St. Louis Sports Commission, replacing Olympic Gold medalist JACKIE JOYNER-KERSEE, who is Chair Emeritus (St. Louis Sports Commission).

    NHL'S JOAN OF ARC: The CP reported the NHL and NHLPA have hired Philadelphia-based arbitrator JOAN PARKER to replace the "fired" LAWRENCE HOLDEN. Parker "is the first female" arbitrator in North American professional sports. NHL VP/Media Relations FRANK BROWN said that Parker has "served as a labour management and employment arbitrator since 1976 and has adjudicated a broad range of labor disputes in several different industries" (CP, 1/17). BLOOMBERG NEWS' Barry Bloom notes that Parker has "no sports experience" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 1/18).

    BARRY, BARRY GOOD ACTOR? ESPN hockey analyst BARRY MELROSE appeared as himself last night on ABC's "SPIN CITY." Co-Producer/Writer MARK TORGROVE said "we called the league and we said, 'Do you have any tape of Barry Melrose playing,' and there was just silence and laughter." Co-Producer/Writer PAUL KAPLAN: "I think they thought we were joking or something. I don't know what it was. They never called us back." Melrose: "My Hollywood career is better than my NHL career" ("NHL Cool Shots," 1/17). Melrose appeared as the host and announcer for "ESPN's $1M Shot" that cast member ALAN RUCK ("STUART BONDEK") attempted at center ice at Madison Square Garden ("Spin City," 1/17).

    NAMES: Sports agent WILLIAM "TANK" BLACK "faces a potential" 6 1/2-year federal prison term and a $2.2M fine after pleading guilty yesterday to "participating in a money-laundering scheme." Black will be sentenced May 10 in detroit by U.S. District Court Judge LAWRENCE ZATKOFF (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 1/18)....Miami Beach real estate agent PETER LOMBARDI said that MIKE TYSON "has a handshake agreement" to buy a house in Miami Beach. Lombardi also sold ANNA KOURNIKOVA her home on Sunset Island last year for $5.2M (MIAMI HERALD, 1/18)....Former CART team Owner CARL HOGAN died Sunday in NH. He was 71 (K.C. STAR, 1/18).
