THE SPORTING NEWS' 100 MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN SPORTS IN '00

THE SPORTING NEWS released its 11th annual rankings of its "Power 100" and this year's "most powerful person in sports" is TIGER WOODS. TSN's Michael Knisley calls the selection of Woods a "slam dunk" and "easy." He also notes that TSN does not cover golf. Woods' IMG agent Mark Steinberg told TSN, "I take your magazine, I read it all the time. You don't have a stitch of golf or tennis in it. To me, for a magazine that doesn't even send somebody to the majors to give this reward to an athlete in a sport it doesn't even cover ... I find it remarkable." The only other athlete to top the list was MICHAEL JORDAN, who claimed the honor in '97. Blazers/Seahawks Owner PAUL ALLEN, who was No. 23 last year, does not appear on the list, as he bought TSN in April '00 (TSN, 12/12 issue): RK NAME ORGANIZATION/POSITION '99 '981) Tiger Woods Pro golfer 10 682) Paul Tagliabue NFL Commissioner 4 23) Rupert Murdoch News Corp.
