ACTIVE.COM TEAMZ UP ETEAMZ.COM IN WEB SITE BUYOUT

Active.com announced on Monday that it signed a deal to acquire L.A.-based eteamz.com. Active.com stated that the deal will add 150,000 teams and over 10,000 leagues to its user base, while boosting site traffic to 30 million page views per month. Eteamz.com Founder & President Brian Johnson will be Active.com VP/Community and will lead the integration effort between the two companies. Former adidas America President & CEO Steve Wynne, who joined eteamz.com in June as Chair & CEO, will assume an advisory role with Active.com (Active.com). The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Noah Liberman reports that the deal unites the "largest event sign-up site" with "the busiest site" for rec sports teams. Active.com represents 90% of the online marketplace while eteamz.com "claims to host" 150,000 team sites for 10,000 leagues. Active.com spokesperson Tim Scott said that the deal is valued at $11.6M, "most of it in stock." While eteamz.com has recently laid off some employees, Active.com Chief Commerce Officer Matt Landa said that "there would be more cuts" in eteamz.com staff, as the company is "integrated into" Active.com's La Jolla, CA location. Liberman adds that Active.com was able to acquire Eteamz.com after it was "bolstered" by a $21M funding round in November (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 12/11 issue).
