ALL THE RIGHTS MOVES: BEARS WILL PROFIT FROM NEW NAME

The naming rights for a renovated Soldier Field could earn the Bears $300M or more, according to Brian McCormick of CRAIN'S CHICAGO BUSINESS, who notes that as part of the $587M renovation agreement with the city, the Chicago Park District granted the team the right to all proceeds from the sale of naming rights for the next 30 years, with an option to extend the agreement for another 20 years. The "only condition" of the agreement is that the name "Soldier Field" be incorporated into any new name. During negotiations on the renovated stadium, Bears execs said that the naming rights restriction "diminished the value" of a name deal to as little as $50M (CRAIN'S CHICAGO BUSINESS, 12/11).
