MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET 60-minute edition
     of FSN's "The Keith Olbermann Evening News" led with
     Olbermann's account of the post-game celebration in the
     Yankees locker room, followed by Broncos-Jets.  The first
     report on the Tour Championship was at 9:10 into the
     broadcast.  Last night's 11:00pm ET 30-minute edition of
     CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with Redskins-Cardinals,
     followed by Colts-Bears.  The first non-NFL report, at 7:48,
     was the Tour Championship.  Last night's 11:30pm ET 60-
     minute edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with Panthers-
     Rams, followed by Chiefs-Raiders.  The first non-NFL report,
     at 12:59, was the Tour Championship (THE DAILY).
          NOTES: Viacom announced Friday that it has agreed to
     purchase Robert Johnson's BET for about $3B in stock and
     debt.  In DC, Christopher Stern reported that Viacom will
     keep the net and its employees at their Northeast DC HQs
     (WASHINGTON POST, 11/4).  Viacom COO Mel Karmazin called the
     acquisition a "strategically perfect fit" for Viacom
     (NEWSDAY, 11/4).  Among its sports assets, BET has a one-
     year deal with the CBA for 18 regular and post-season games.
     ....A crowd of about 3,500 turned out Saturday at Oakland's
     Henry J. Kaiser Center for a tour stop by syndicated radio
     personality Jim Rome, "far short of the 5,800 capacity and
     worlds away from the 15,000-plus" Rome has drawn in
     Sacramento, Houston and Cleveland.  Rome, on the turnout: "I
     can be honest and say that I'm disappointed. ... I'm not
     really sure why that was like that" (MERCURY NEWS, 11/5).
