HEISLEY STRESSES WORK MUST BE DONE FOR GRIZZLIES TO FLOURISH

Grizzlies Owner Michael Heisley said Wednesday that he is "disappointed at the level of fan and corporate support this season," which he called "a little worse than last year," according to Gary Kingston of the VANCOUVER SUN. Heisley: "I can't have a successful franchise if I can't figure out a way to get people in this city to embrace the franchise." He added that his "losses will be significantly more" than he hoped to lose. Heisley earlier said that the losses would be more than C$25M, and he joked yesterday, "I'm losing my shirt, my pants and my tie." Meanwhile, the team plays 12 home games in the next month and President of Business Operations Andy Dolich said the dates will give the organization an "even better and realistic view of how far behind we are." Kingston: "Both Dolich and Heisley said the club, although stuck with a number of star players who are essentially shy and less than engaging at times, had done a poor job of marketing those players as personalities." Dolich: "There are not a lot of kids running around and saying I want to be like Shareef [Abdur-Rahim]. We have to do a better job with that" (VANCOUVER SUN, 11/30).
