OLYMPIC NOTES: SALT LAKE'S CITY HALL A KEY BACKDROP

In UT, Riley Roche & Urbani reported that the City-
County Building in Salt Lake City will be decorated with the
five Olympic rings for the 2002 Winter Games. SLOC
spokesperson Caroline Shaw said that the city will pay for
the decorations. Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson has
lobbied for the city building to be a central focus for the
Games, and has "concerns" that city's LDS Church's Temple
Square will be the "dominant image" of the Games. Anderson:
"We're not trying to avoid the temple in any way. It's just
not the only thing Salt Lake City is all about. ... The
[temple's] architecture is magnificent, but it's not the
only thing" (DESERET NEWS, 11/20)....In Salt Lake City, Mike
Gorrell reported that 2002 Olympic ticket orders from the
public "continue to pour in." SLOC's Shaw said that as of
Friday, 30,400 orders for 545,000 tickets worth about $57M
have been processed by SLOC. SLOC's budget is "counting on"
$68M from the 885,000 tickets available in the U.S. The
public sale ends December 12 (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 11/20).
